About Bastakiya Art Fair
Now in its third year, The BASTAKIYA ART FAIR (BAF) will take place in the houses of Bastakiya, the historic area of Dubai, 15 - 22 March 2009 and from 9am to 8pm daily. BAF 2009 is an independent fringe art fair which focuses international attention on Dubai's art and cultural agenda. BAF 2009 runs parallel to Art Dubai and Sharjah Biennial 09, and in the best tradition of all things fringe, provides a platform for young, innovative and emerging artistic talent. The fair opens up the unique environment of Bastakiya to contemporary art. Involving international, regional and local galleries, artists and curators, the program of events will include a vernissage, daily exhibitions and lectures.

The Incredible Holga and Wonder Diana - Opening Night

The Incredible Holga and Wonder Diana

Lomography UAE and The Jam Jar invites you to a new Lomo exhibition dedicated to the super powers of the Holga and the Diana+.

Both cameras are made entirely out of plastic, including the lens, and with simple settings, offer unlimited opportunity for imagination and creativity.

Lomographers from around the world will exhibit some of their most beautiful and powerful images taken with the Holga and the Diana+.

If you would like to meet these cult cameras, two workshops will be held that will introduce you to them, where you can get to know their history and learn some tips and tricks of the trade.

Exhibition opening reception: 19th May 2008

Wednesday, 21st May 2008 at 7-9pm
Saturday, 24th May 2008 at 11.30am-1.30pm

PRICE: 150AED per person for a workshop package which includes a Holga or Diana+ or Diana F+ camera which you can take away with you at the end of the session. For those of you that already have a Lomo camera come along for 50AED and develop your skills further.

LOMOment on Earth

To celebrate Earth Hour (http://www.earthhour.org) on 29th March, Dubai Eye 103.8 and Lomography UAE would like to honour our Earth by sharing 200 beautiful snapshots taken by 30 Lomographers from around the world. Sent as 'postcards' with a few words on how special these captured moments are, come and share their Lomo Moment,s, enjoy the beauty and help preserve the beauty in the places that are getting destroyed. The LOMOment on Earth installation will be displayed outside house no. 118 (The Jam Jar).

LOMOment on Earth - a call for submissions

Calling all Lomographers to submit photos of this beautiful earth. To celebrate Earth Hour on 29th March, Lomography Dubai would like to honour our Earth by showing the wonderful nature around you. If your natural surrounding is being destroyed, send those images as well, to show and remind people how we can all try to make a difference.

All the lomos will be put together to make up a lomocurtain and will be installed at the Creek Art Fair (CAF).
CAF is a fringe art fair that will run in parallel to Art Dubai and aims to draw attention to the more innovative and emerging artistic talents. It will be held in an area called Bastkiya which is close to the creek (river) and this area has small traditional houses and pedestrian streets and the art will be showcased all around this area. International, regional and local galleries, artists and cultural institutions will be taking part and the the program of events will include daily exhibitions, movie screenings, an opening and a closing party, installations, talks program and an artists-led education schedule.

Dates for the LOMOment on Earth installation: 20th - 31st March

What next:
1. Email your photos to lomography[dot]dubai[at]gmail[dot]com (email subject line should say LOMOment - your name).
2. Photos must be saved in JPG format. Width should be 1800pixels and height should be 1200pixels (the photos will be printed 6 by 4 inches).
3. Please include your full name, Lomohome, country and one or two lines about the image. We intend to showcase the photos like postcards and have the copy you sent printed at the back.
